Baroque Revival Giltwood Mirror

c. 1880s | From a Roman Villa | 65 cm H × 59 cm W (25.6" × 23.2")

A graceful mid-scale mirror sourced directly from a Roman estate—carved scrolls and gilded ornaments that speak to its Baroque Revival pedigree. The frame moves between ornament and restraint in that very Italian way: busy where it counts, quiet where it breathes.

The gilt has settled into a warm, lived-in patina earned over more than a century of Roman light. You'll find a couple of age cracks in the giltwood (stable, honest), which only underscore that this has actually been somewhere—hung in a villa hallway, perhaps, watching the city change around it.

Hangs portrait. Works above a console, a bedroom dresser, or anywhere you need a little gilt and geometry to anchor the room.

Notes:

  • Giltwood frame with minor age cracks (stable, disclosed)
  • Original mirror glass (may show age spotting—part of the story)
  • Ready to hang; hardware intact
  • Sourced from a private Roman estate
  • Pre-1890s European manufacture

Roman Estates sources authentic 18th–20th century Italian and European antiques directly from private Roman estates and historic dealers. Each piece is individually selected for quality, provenance, and design merit.

A note on antiques: Antiques aren't new — that's the whole point. Every scratch, patina mark and sign of age is a badge of honour, not a defect. Detail photos are unfiltered and show the piece exactly as it is. We're happy to provide additional photos or videos upon request. All sales are final, so take a good look, ask us anything, and buy what you love.
