Description:

A commanding presence in any interior, this rare matched suite: a large giltwood console table with original marble top and its accompanying carved mirror. It was sourced directly from a Roman private residence, where it had lived for generations.

The console is a tour de force of the Italian carver’s art: four dramatically curved cabriole legs, each densely worked with acanthus scrolls and C-curves, joined by a pierced X-stretcher centered with a carved floral medallion. The apron is deeply pierced and scrolled, with a gadrooned upper rail. The original cream-veined marble top retains its shaped profile and subtle patina.

The mirror echoes every motif of the console below it. Scrolling acanthus flowers, rocaille shells, and sinuous foliage building to an elaborate broken pediment crested with a carved flower basket. The proportions are generous: this is a mirror that commands a wall.

The gilt throughout shows the warm, tonal variation that only genuine age produces, shifting between burnished gold and antique bronze in the recesses, the result of decades in Roman light rather than any workshop shortcut.
