Rococo Revival Giltwood Mirror

c. 1890s | From a Roman Villa | 85 cm H × 60 cm W (33.5" × 23.6")

A statement mirror sourced directly from a Roman estate—vertical proportions, carved flourishes, and that unmistakable Rococo Revival sensibility. The frame moves with lightness and ornament: scrolled cartouches at the crest, shell and acanthus details along the sides, botanical motifs that catch the light.

The gilt has a warm, lived-in patina earned over more than a century of Roman interiors. You'll notice a few honest chips in the carved ornaments and some gilt spalling—the kind of wear that reads as authenticity rather than damage. This is a mirror that's been used, which is precisely what gives it character.

Hangs effortlessly. Works as an entryway statement piece, above a console, or as a bedroom focal point—anywhere you want presence and a little old-world elegance.

Notes:

  • Giltwood frame with minor chips and gilt wear (stable, disclosed)
  • Original mirror glass (may show age spotting—part of the story)
  • Ready to hang; hardware intact
  • Sourced from a private Roman estate
  • Late 19th-century European manufacture

Roman Estates sources authentic 18th–20th century Italian and European antiques directly from private Roman estates and historic dealers. Each piece is individually selected for quality, provenance, and design merit.

A note on antiques: Antiques aren't new — that's the whole point. Every scratch, patina mark and sign of age is a badge of honour, not a defect. Detail photos are unfiltered and show the piece exactly as it is. We're happy to provide additional photos or videos upon request. All sales are final, so take a good look, ask us anything, and buy what you love.
