A vintage Italian reproduction of Jan Davidsz. de Heem's Vase of Flowers, the Dutch Golden Age still life held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington. It was made by Ghima Riproduzioni d'Arte of Italy and comes with its original Certificato di Garanzia (catalog no. 114).
Ghima's certificate states that the relief and texture of the paint surface were executed entirely by hand by artists in its own workshops. That shows up close, in the raised brushwork across the striped tulips, the poppies and the feathered white bloom. The dark ground is crowded with detail, including butterflies, a bumblebee, a caterpillar and blackberries on the ledge.
It's set in an aged giltwood frame with red bole showing through the wear.
