THIS ITEM IS CURRENTLY IN ITALY. IT WILL BE IN TEXAS EARLY 2027.
An exceptional Italian bureau bookcase in the Venetian Baroque manner, sourced directly from a private Roman home. Standing nearly floor-to-ceiling, this piece commands a room with its sculptural scrolled pediment, pierced cartouche crest, and a pair of arched, beveled doors set with antique mirror glass that has aged to a soft, silvery patina.
The upper cabinet is framed in book-matched walnut and burl veneers with contrasting ebonized stringing, and its shaped arches are richly inlaid. Below, a fall-front writing surface opens to reveal a fitted interior of pigeonholes and small drawers, flanked by two carved acanthus-shell pull-out slides. The serpentine, bombé case holds three generous drawers fitted with their original cast-iron rococo handles, and stands on carved cabriole feet.
